Original US Army Woodland BDU Jacket

Original U.S. Army surplus from the 1980s and 1990s in classic woodland camouflage. Designed as a practical military outer layer, these jackets are known for their hard-wearing construction, functional cut, and timeless camouflage pattern. A great piece for wear, collecting, surplus use, or general outdoor use. Many examples are ripstop cotton/nylon with the familiar four-pocket BDU layout.

As genuine military surplus, condition will vary from jacket to jacket. These will show evidence of use and, in some cases, DRMO ink stamps indicating that they have been sold out of service legally instead of just pawned for beer money. All buttons present and no major signs of damage. Some fading and wear to the collar or cuffs is to be expected, along with the usual minor marks, loose threads, and general cosmetic aging that come with long service and storage. Despite that, these are practical military garments and usually still have many years of life left in them, making them a solid wearable surplus piece rather than just a display item.

Some examples may also feature waist adjustment tabs, a detail often seen on earlier variants. Exact features, contract details, and labels may vary between jackets.

Approximate size guide

These jackets are usually marked using standard US military sizing, combining a chest size with a length such as Short, Regular, Long, or X-Long. As a rough guide:

  • X-Small – approx. up to 33” chest
  • Small – approx. 33–37” chest
  • Medium – approx. 37–41” chest
  • Large – approx. 41–45” chest
  • X-Large – approx. 45–49” chest
  • XX-Large – approx. 49–53” chest

Length guide

  • X-Short – suits approx. 5’3”–5’6”
  • Short – suits approx. 5’6”–5’8”
  • Regular – suits approx. 5’9”–5’11”
  • Long – suits approx. 6’0”–6’2”
  • X-Long – suits approx. 6’3”+

Sizing should be treated as approximate only, as military garments are often cut to be worn as outer layers over other clothing. Checking the label and any listed measurements is always recommended.
